Electives and Workshops
Workshops and Electives are daily activities that are chosen by the camper. Elective groups encourage teamwork and meet daily working towards performances in talent shows and collaborations with other Elective Groups. Workshops change daily and allow camper’s the opportunity to participate in a variety of theatre and camp activities.
2012 ELECTIVE OFFERINGS!
PAPA Rock: Campers play traditional and non-traditional musical instruments to create an explosion of rockin' and rollin' rhythm & music! This ensemble will play a combination of original tunes and covers based on camper interest and develop pieces to blow the roof off of the talent shows!
Sign Language: American Sign Language is one of the quickest languages to learn and useful in all sorts of situations! In this elective, campers will learn conversational sign language through games, songs & scenes working towards performances in the talent shows!
Musical Theatre: Combining vocal techniques and acting with movement and dance, campers will learn musical numbers that they can perform as a group at talent shows and use for future auditions! Some group numbers will be performed in the final talent show!
PAPA’Capella: Campers will explore this all vocal (no instrument accompaniment!) singing style. Learning, rehearsing and performing musical pieces in the style of barbershop, do-wop and contemporary pop helps campers build listening and singing skills as well as confidence and team work.
Dance: Campers have the opportunity to explore the many avenues of dance through this elective! Focusing on origins of modern dance steps from classical dance elements, theater dance to hip-hop, PAPA Camp’s Dance troupe will develop a combination of pieces to present in the talent shows as well as the final show.
Exploring Acting: Characters, scenes and stories will come alive in this elective! Campers explore fundamental acting skills including focus, characterization, memorization, and scene study – skills that are crucial for all kinds of performers. Actors have the opportunity to collaborate with the playwriting elective & perform in talent shows. This active, high-energy elective will develop campers’ creative thinking and performance skills.
Creative Writing/Playwriting: Do you have something to say?! Are you inspired by the sunshine and creativity of camp? Do you make up crazy characters and write skits at home? Campers who sign up for this elective may write scenes to be performed by the Acting Elective, write articles, design and distribute the PAPA Camp newsletter, and more based on the interests of the campers that sign up!
Arts & Crafts: Get down and dirty with Arts & Crafts! This elective will be driven by the campers enrolled in it and may include several of the following: jewelry making, tie-dying, duct tape construction, costume design & construction, mask making, painting, sculpture making and MORE! Arts & Crafts elective will also make decorations for the PAPA Camp themed dance!
